About Me

I'm Rosie Arnfield. Mother, Wife... Cake Baking addict.

I have been baking since I was a child, so that would be at least 20 years now. I was self taught from a small selection of my mother's cookery books, mostly “Good Housekeeping” & “Mary Berry's Ultimate Cake Book”. My mother doesn't do baking, and neither do any of my other family members, so it was always my extreme love of cake that encouraged me to bake. I enjoy it mostly because I love to eat my own home baked goods, but also, because it is completely addictive. I am obsessed with finding new recipes, gaining new skills, and coming up with new flavour combinations.

I think that my “no machine mixing” method of baking means that I put love into my baking and don't overwork anything. I bake least twice a week, and in between if the little one allows me to. I don't like to bake the same thing twice, as I am trying to increase my baking repertoire all the time.

I grew up in East Anglia in a lovely village called Brampton in Cambridgeshire. When I was 18 I went to Hull University to study Drama, then decided to stay up North with my Husband John. We now have a little boy called Luke, and we all live in a lovely village called Hadfield, in North-Derbyshire, where "The league of Gentlemen" was filmed. I love to get involved with my community; I volunteer for the Glossop branch of the National Childbirth Trust charity. It's mostly about birth & parenthood but I  like to think that it's really about eating cakes too...

I have never been trained in baking and I don't have any formal qualifications, everything comes from my own imagination and researching old recipe books. After university I became self-taught in website design, with the aim of going into business with my husband who is a web developer. After building websites for 3 years I decided that I needed to do something more creative and away from a computer!

Hobbies & Interests

I am also a keen singer and songwriter. I love to sing, play the piano and am now learning the guitar. I go to traditional music sessions at The Globe in Glossop where I sing with other fellow musicians. You might catch me playing my own gigs soon. I also have a nerdy side and love the odd bit of Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG's). I am a huge Final Fantasy fan and have followed the series since childhood. I frequently go to the Distant World concerts to listen to my favourite computer game music arranged for full orchestra.

Dreams & Ambitions

One of my greatest ambitions in life is to have my very own tea room, “Rosie's Tea Room”, which would be very pretty and very English. I have it all planned out in my head and I can't wait until I can actually do it. I also want to run a vintage afternoon tea party business and do little girl's pretty birthday tea parties.

  1. You hit my funny bone with your comment '.....but I like to think its about eating cakes too'. Very interesting piece about you and your family! I'm sure you'll be very successful.

  2. Apologies for the inaccurate quote!
